Editorial policy
weather.wtf is a news site. The weather.wtf newsroom publishes trending weather shows from vetted local news stations, and member shows told as news. This page explains how those stories are reported, labeled, and corrected.
Who we are
weather.wtf is owned and operated by MVP MGMT Expert, LLC, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Our founder and editor-in-chief is Mike Penrod. More about the company is on our About page. Who owns the site, and how it is paid for, is on Ownership & Funding.
Our standards
Third-party reporting for station stories
Trending shows report a station’s weather story in the third person. We do not write as the station, and we do not add a fact the station did not report.
The source is always named
A station story names the reporting station on the page and in the show. A member show names the member as the source of the photo. The member is never the byline.
Sourced and cited
Station facts come from that station’s own posts, which the show cites. Member facts come from the member’s photo and caption. We do not publish anonymous claims.
How a show gets on the site
Trending shows are built from vetted local station posts. Those stations are credited on the show. The editor reviews the standards and the items those checks flag before a flagged item can publish. Member shows are the member’s own photo and story; they are not public until the member has approved them. AI hosts are disclosed on the AI disclosure page and by the platform line.
Hosts are labeled by the platform line
weather.wtf, an AI-generated news platform. Hosts present the story. They are not the author. The one platform line is the disclosure. We do not add a separate AI label on each show. See the AI disclosure.
No paid placement in the news byline
Membership pays for a member’s channel. It does not buy a byline, and it does not buy a station credit. Morning news is sponsored by ElboTV; that sponsorship is labeled on the show. It is not a story placement.
Fact-checking
A station is used only when its account is the station’s own official account and it matches our directory. Posts also pass weather-only and PG-13 checks. The steps are on Sourcing Standards. A member photo is a news story only when the photo checks out; otherwise it is a photograph, not news.
Bylines and dates
Stories carry the byline “weather.wtf”. Mike Penrod is the editor-in-chief. He is not the author of a story. Every story shows the date and time it was published.
Corrections
If you see an error, use the contact form and say what needs fixing. We check every report. When we correct a story, we fix it on the page and add a dated note saying what changed. Response times and how each kind of change is labeled are in our corrections and updates policy.
