Hey, it's Tom. Hurricane Isaias is closing in on the Gulf Coast with landfall approaching. Right now, WTVA 9 News in Columbus reports: Hurricane Isaias is now a Category 1 storm with sustained winds of 80 miles per hour. It's expected to turn north today and make landfall along the Gulf Coast on Friday. The center is expected to pass through the local area as a tropical depression. WANE 15 in Fort Wayne reports: Meanwhile, Isaias surged toward the U.S. Gulf Coast today as the first hurricane of the Atlantic season, prompting mandatory evacuations and school closures in Florida. It's forecast to intensify rapidly before landfall, bringing strong winds and a life-threatening storm surge to the Florida Panhandle, southern Alabama and southern Mississippi. Farther along the track, Hurricane Isaias is expected to come ashore in Florida near the border with Alabama around 1 a.m. on Saturday. That timing comes from the latest hurricane tracking data on where and when the center should reach the coast. Credits and photos are tagged below.
