Wupatki National Monument

The Wupatki National Monument is located in north-central Arizona, just north of Sunset Crater, near Flagstaff.

The Native American ruins were built by Ancient Pueblo People, specifically the Cohonina, Kayenta Anasazi, and Sinagua.

Wupatki was first inhabited around 500 AD. It was abandoned around 1225 AD.

The pueblo is constructed of thin, flat blocks of the local Moenkopi sandstone. It gives the pueblo the distinctive red color.
