One of my first stops when I go to Grandfather always is up at the bridge checking for the rare and endangered plants that grow there. I was delighted to find Roan Mountain bluet (Houstonia montana, or I believe now Houstonia purpurea var. montana) in bloom. This is one of the federally listed endangered species that can be found on top of Grandfather Mountain.
