Mountain Light

This photo was inspired by the early pioneer of landscape photography using color 35mm film, Galen Rowell. He has written numerous articles in Outdoor Photography magazine about his vision of capturing the magical mountain light. He himself was an avid climber who constantly seek for that light. In the process, he developed certain techniques and principles. Some of them still apply today despite the advancement from film to digital formats in landscape photography. Galen had written that of all the majestic places he had visited around the world, he always found that he belonged to the sierras. Thus, he established his base in Bishop, CA. Unfortunately, he and his wife, Barbara, died in plane crash at Inyo County Airport in 2002. This photo was taken nearby in the Mammoth mountain. As i was waiting for the sunset, I saw this huge cloud hovering behind these mountains. It slowly turned its color as the sun went down. I captured the most intense moment just before the sun completely disappeared. You can find some of Galen ‘s articles here: www.mountainlight.com/articles.html
