Blackrock Beach is the signature location of Big Talbot Island State Park, located northeast of Jacksonville. It is one of three Atlantic Beach locations in Florida which are not sandy but instead contain some form of rock. At Blockrock Beach, these rocks are not true rocks at all, but merely very compacted mud which forms rocklike shapes and consistency, though I learned the hard way it will occasionally give way under your feet with no warning. In some cases green algae covers the rocks. Much of the beachscape is permeated by batches of driftwood which provides a haunting feeling. These looks may be not be extraordinary for locations farther north, but in Florida the deviation from the norm makes it one of Florida’s most interesting visits.
