Today’s edition of Armchair Traveling takes me back to our visit to Hanoi, Vietnam. After a visit to the market district, we walked back along the lake to our hotel and enjoyed some people watching, even though it was incredibly hot and humid! These girls in their colorful ao dai dresses had selfie sticks – a strange juxtaposition of modern and traditional.
By the way, this is Trúc Bạch Lake, where John McCain ditched his plane and parachuted into the lake in 1967. A small plaque marked the spot. He spent the next 5-1/2 years in a grim, nearby prison, which we also visited.
